Howlite: the great pretender.

Bookmark and Share

Howlite  is a beautiful white gemstone with black veins or inclusions. I call it the great pretender because it is often dyed blue and sold as turquoise! The black veins make it hard to distinguish from turquoise but it is a MUCH softer stone. It is a shame that this beautiful stone in it’s own right is not recognized properly.

Howlite is considered a calming stone. It is said to absorb rage and anger when worn. It is also a terrific gemstone to wear when meditating.

  1. I did not know that about Howlite, but now that you mention it, I think that Lee Sands (a QVC designer of jewelry) uses Howlite a lot…and I believe it usually is a turquois color….

    • Hi Melanie
thanks for that info on the designer using Howlite in turquoise. It is unfortunate that she is coloring this gorgeous stone to make it appear like turquoise. I love the natural white with black myself.

  2. What a beautiful stone! It is so cool to learn that it is a calming stone too. Its very interesting to learn that a stone could absorb anger and rage. If this is a proven fact I would love to have one on me at all times for those moments of needing to be calm. Very nice details to know. Thank you for sharing.
