Serpentine: Gemstone legends and Facts

Stone Soup Serpentine Necklace

Serpentine is a green silicate stone that comes in several color variations. One variety mimics a snakeskin in appearance. (hence the name) and the variety I use in my designs is more apple green. It has also been referred to as ‘Yellow Turquoise’

Serpentine has been found in carvings that are over 30 thousand years old! Even though this gemstone is relatively soft, it was used for smaller carvings of figurines and bowls.

In Ancient times Serpentine as believed to protect those who wore it against snake and other deadly bites.

Serpentine is said to heal emotional baggage from previous relationships and aid in resolving past issues. Some liken this to the shedding of old skin (like the snake).

My site features this gemstone in earring and necklace designs.
