Evolution of a Design

People often ask how my designs morph into the finished product they see on the web site.

Believe it or not, the process is all about feeling my way to the ‘right’ design. As an example, I present a pendant that I created over a year ago, using copper, sterling silver and Arizona turquoise.

At the time I liked it a lot.

But late last year, as I was experimenting more and more with different patinas… I decided that this piece needed an overhaul. It just didnt ‘speak’ to me any more.

I know that sounds a little crazy, but that is precisely what I feel when the design is finished!

So I pulled the design and reworked it completely. I changed the shape completely and added an antiqued finish. Now this piece sings to me!  Designing is really a process of coming into alignment with me. Here is the new design. I LOVE IT!

How do you feel about the evolution of this design? I would love to hear your comments and suggestions!
